About St. Paul

St. Paul Presbyterian Church began in1957 as an “outpost” of Glenwood Presbyterian Church. The first meeting of Sunday School classes was held at Archibald D Murphey School on April 7, 1957. The church was first organized as The Murphey School Chapel on February 16, 1958 with forty-six charter members. In April of that year the congregation voted to name the church “St. Paul Presbyterian Church”.

The members called their first pastor, Reverend Jerry C. McCann, on March 16, 1958. Jerry continued to serve St. Paul for over thirty years, retiring to Long Beach, NC in December, 1988.

Throughout the years, St. Paul has continued a tradition of nurturing it’s members and extended church family, as well as a strong support of missions. In December of 2005 the church sanctuary was destroyed by fire, but the congregation has determined to re-build it’s center of worship. Many trials have come along since the fire, but many blessings have come too.

On Sunday, February 24, 2008 a groundbreaking ceremony was held on the site of our new sanctuary. The ceremony was a highlight of our 50th Anniversary celebration. We look forward to serving our Lord and Savior for many years to come!
